Central Air System
Central air conditioning, commonly referred to as "central air", is an air conditioning system which uses ducts to distribute cooled and/or dehumidified air throughout the home. The compressor of the central air conditioning unit is located outside the home and air is vented into individual room via built-in ducts and registers. Central air offers a lower level of noise indoors than a free-standing air conditioning unit. Many units also filter the air in the home, removing airborne particles such as dust and lint and increasing indoor air quality.
Ductless - "Mini-Split" System
Ductless Mini-Splits are perfect for a home that does not already have duct work in place, but where the homeowner does not want to settle for the inefficiency and noise of window units. The compressor/condenser is installed outdoors; refrigerant lines connect it to an indoor air handler unit through a small, three-inch opening in the wall. Relatively small and discreet, the blower unit is mounted high on the interior wall, easily blending into a room and freeing up valuable window space.

Window Units
A window unit is a complete air conditioning system package that is installed in a hole in the wall of the home. Window units are sufficient for very small spaces and where the excess noise produced is easily tolerated or of little importance. Though cheaper to install up front, they may not be the most efficient or economical choice for most homes.
